Every Woman Who Has Dunked

By James Caricato - December 07, 2018

Dunks are hard to come by in Women’s Basketball. Unlike the NBA there are only a handful of woman athletes that have dunked, ever. The average height for the ladies is only 6 feet tall.

While we recognize the women in the WNBA for their elite skills, talent, and dedication to basketball that shows on the court every game, it’s a rare treat to see a dunk in one of their games.

These are the women who’ve been able to make dunking history.

Cardte Hicks

She’s the one who put women’s dunking on the map, becoming the first lady to dunk ever in a professional basketball game while playing for a men’s team in Holland in 1978.

Georgeann Wells

Georgeann became the first woman to dunk in a college basketball game in 1984 when she dunked in a game against University of Charleston during her junior year at West Virginia University.

She took one of the first major steps in popularizing women’s basketball.

The first WNBA dunker is on the next page.

Lisa Leslie

The first 2 dunks in a WNBA game were both by Lisa Leslie.

She was one of the NBA’s first and biggest stars and paved the way for many stars that followed.

Candace Parker

Candace beat J.R. Smith and Rudy Gay in the McDonalds All American Dunk Contest during her High School basketball years.

She was a true mainstream star for Women’s basketball.

Candace has a rare skill set featuring great height, athleticism and guard skills.

Sylvia Fowles

Sylvia is known for her tomahawk dunk during the 2009 WNBA All Star Game.

Sylvia is not just a great dunker… She’s one of the WNBA’s greatest players of all time.

Jonquel Jones

She had her first dunk of her career during the 2017 WNBA All Star Game.

One of the WNBA’s newest wave of stars, Jonquel has serious athleticism.

Michelle Snow

Michelle has been dunking since her college days at Tennessee. Candace Parker and Michelle had a dunk contest of their own in 2006 during a Team USA practice.

What an athlete.

Liz Cambage

During the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Liz dunked in a game against Russia, becoming the first woman to dunk in an Olympic Basketball Game.

Brittney Griner

She has taken women’s dunking to the next level. Griner dunked twice during her WNBA opening game and now holds the record for most dunks in the WNBA with 13 career slams. Brittney also set a high school record her senior year, dunking 52 times in only 32 games played.

Possibly the strongest dunker in Women’s basketball history, Britney was quoted as saying she could beat Demarcus Cousins 1on1.
